Regulation = Matriculation Project

Regulation = Matriculation Project

Student Counseling Services was awarded a grant to support student success. The Regulation = Matriculation Project is a grant-funded project designed to support the wellbeing and success of first-year residential college students. The program helps students learn practical coping skills and emotional regulation strategies to manage the stressors of college life and support academic persistence.

What the Program Offers

Coping Skills Workshops

Interactive, skills-based workshops focused on stress management, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and self-care—designed specifically for first-year college students.

Equine Therapy Experiences

Guided equine-assisted activities that promote emotional awareness, stress reduction, and connection. No riding experience required.

Sound Bath Meditation

Relaxation sessions using sound and vibration to support mindfulness, emotional regulation, and stress relief.

Who Can Participate
  • First-year undergraduate students
  • Students living in on-campus residence halls
  • No prior counseling experience required

* Participation is free and voluntary.

* Workshops will be held twice a month during the Spring 2026 semester, starting in February in Azalea Hall (room number TBA). The workshops will begin at 5:30 pm and end at 6:30 pm.

* Meals will be provided from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm in Azalea Hall. This will be an opportunity to connect with Peer Mentors.

Why It Matters

Developing coping skills and emotional regulation during the first year supports wellbeing, belonging, and long-term student success. The Regulation = Matriculation Project helps students regulate so they can matriculate successfully to their second year and beyond.
